Nigeria (MNN) — In its most recent YouTube video post last week, Nigerian terrorist sect Boko Haram threatened that it would bring down the federal government by June.
Boko Haram is responsible for several attacks on Christians, including a bombing April 8, Easter Sunday, which killed over 45 people.
The new threat comes just weeks after President Goodluck Jonathan vowed his regime would have Boko Haram under control by June. Jonathan has notoriously defended Christians throughout his time in office.
The video also included renewed promises to dispose of all Christians and to eliminate Christianity from Nigeria completely. Hundreds of believers have died at the hands of Boko Harm over the past few years.
Despite Boko Haram's brutally violent history Bill Bray with Christian Aid Mission agrees with Jonathan that the terror group will soon be drawing to an end.
"I think it's the death row of this particular splinter group. I think that they will be eliminated now by the government," says Bray. "They have bragged about their willingness to die for Allah, and they will, I believe."
But given the nature of this conflict, even if the power of Boko Haram is to subside, the group will surely not go down without a fight. Bray says to expect more attacks against Christians in coming months.
He adds, "No threat is an empty threat, so we need to pray for the believers there, and for the government."
Christian Aid has a number of ministries throughout Nigeria. Brave believers continue to spread the Gospel despite Boko Haram's unending harassment and even successful murders, in some cases.
The fact that Boko Haram even exists is evidence that the Good News is moving forward though, says Bray. "Through all of this suffering, God's will will be done. The Lord Jesus will be honored, and people will come to Christ. And that's happening."

In the meantime, notes Bray, "Let us use this threat as a prompt to pray and uphold the Nigerian Christians in our daily prayers."
