International (MNN) — Faith Comes By Hearing is celebrating the addition of eight new language recordings to their catalog of Audio Scriptures.
Bible translation is one of the biggest needs the modern world has for Gospel ministry. Many people groups have no version of the Bible translated into their written language; furthermore, many people groups don’t even have a written version of their language. This is where audio Scripture comes in.
The newest recordings are:
• Chikunda – Zimbabwe
• Eleme – Nigeria
• Fali, South – Cameroon
• Lorma – Liberia
• Mabaan – Sudan
• Parecis – Brazil
• Quechua Southern Pastaza – Peru
• Samareño – Philippines
Combined, these eight languages represent more than 2.9 million people that now have an Audio Bible available in their heart language. Some of the FCBH partners that made these recordings possible through their dedicated translation work are: SIM, Philippine Bible Society, Bible Society of Nigeria, Bible Society of Zimbabwe, and The Bible League.
The 553 languages in the FCBH catalog are the single largest resource of Audio Bibles in the world. Spoken in more than 185 countries, these recordings represent a potential outreach to more than 5 billion people–pavaieople who have not had access to the Good News for the simple reason that it has not been available in their heart language.
The ministry's Digital Bible Project continues to grow and provide further access as well. Faith Comes By Hearing offers free access to Audio Bibles through streaming and podcasts, while the Bible.is app for iPhone, iPad and Android devices now offers nearly 400 versions of the Bible across more than 215 languages.
For those areas that do not yet have regular access to the Internet or mobile devices, FCBH continues to reach out by providing Audio New Testaments on solar-powered Proclaimers® for listening groups. As of June 2011, more than 287,000 Proclaimers® are proclaiming God's Word around the world.
The ministry has set a goal of recording New Testaments in 2,000 languages by 2016, which could reach 97% of the world's population with the Word of God in heart languages.
The average cost to record a people's heart language is $25,596, or $948 per book. Once recorded, the average cost to provide God's Word in audio for an entire village is $157.
