Volunteers needed for tornado cleanup

By May 11, 2011

USA (MNN) — The recent tornadoes that struck the southeast United States posed a serious threat to the Evangelical Free Church of America Southeast District. Fortunately, no churches or members were seriously harmed.

The Southeast District and Hope Church are able to respond to the crisis with the EFCA's TouchGlobal Crisis Response team.

There are many people to attend to. In an article posted on the EFCA Web site, the leader of the Harvest Youth Club and Battlefield Ministries Inc. was reported as saying, "Eighty percent of these houses are single-parent or non-traditional homes. Forty percent of our residents are over 60, yet we only had one fatality and 45 seriously injured."

There is great potential for spreading Christ's love in word and in deed amid this extreme devastation. Even though many EFCA church members were relatively unharmed, they have co-workers, neighbors and friends who have been hit hard by the effects of the storm. Pray for these believers to have the comforting words to say to point these victims toward the Lord.

The TouchGlobal Crisis Response has organized a team to be on the ground for four weeks. Many volunteers are serving in Alabama currently, and more are needed for the week of May 22-29. If you can help, contact: [email protected].

If another time works better for a team you are gathering, schedules can be worked around. Fees will be $230 per week.
