Haiti (MNN) — After seeing the devastation in Haiti on the news, one fourth-grade girl decided to do something about it.
10-year-old Christa Wood says watching the after effects of the earthquake made her feel she had to do something. She began thinking of ways she could help children in Haiti, and she decided on something she knew would bring her comfort in a rough situation: stuffed animals.
Wood created a stuffed animal drive at her school, and the idea caught like wildfire. Before she knew it, drop-off stations had popped up at major stores, businesses and restaurants, for the many who wanted to participate in what is being called ‘Hugs for Haiti.'
So far, nearly 600 new stuffed animals have been donated from U.S. children. Wood believes these stuffed animals will make the Haitian children who receive them "feel safe and give them something to love."
This faith in action is being coupled with aid from Buckner International. Buckner will send the stuffed toys to Haiti with the other necessities they are collecting and sending to Haitian children.
Pray that the love shown through Wood and Buckner will shine through these stuffed animals and necessities. Pray that Christ would be lifted up and that many Haitians would come to know Him through this project.
