Ghana (MNN) — In Prampram,
Ghana, the community marked Christmas last week with a parade.
Ambrose
Brennan with Oasis International says this was probably their best one yet. In
past years, the parade was used to unify the community, but this year, it helped
unify the church.
The parade stopped frequently to
explain what they were doing and to issue invitations to the community. Brennan says that personal care created a lot of
interest. "It was to be a
celebration of the birth of Jesus, and we were also taking that time to invite
them to the rally. Afterwards, we showed a Billy Graham
film."
After each Gospel presentation, an invitation to receive Christ was given. Each time, several
dozen people responded.
Discipleship is important, and
Brennan says this is where the strength of the local church community comes in.
"We encouraged the new
Christians, if they did not have a church, to follow-up with some of the
pastors that were there. We're really
thanking God for the outcome that we saw."
There is still work to do.
Brennan says as their school trains believers vocationally, they are trained to be effective evangelists, too
"It's just been our prayer that little by little, we can conquer
some ground for God's kingdom. I think we're doing that. There are certain parts
of Prampram where there's still a lot of spiritual darkness going on there, so
we really were concentrating on that."
Oasis International Training
Center is teaching a full compliment of Pastoral Leadership classes and basic
Biblical Classes. They are also including
vocational help with computer software (Microsoft Office) and computer
hardware.
Children's classes are held on
Saturdays. These classes are currently serving roughly 200 children each
weekend. These are tomorrow's leaders,
and they are learning through teaching, skits, songs, and roleplay that God
loves them.
The last wing of the Training Center's outreach has been the
partnership with the Prampram Health Clinic. The Oasis team has been assisting the
completion of the Recovery Ward and the Fence Wall with financial help,
manpower and logistics. Both these projects will help improve the sanitation
and health care for the people of Prampram.
