USA (MNN) — In Galveston, Texas, complete restoration after Hurricane Ike is still a long way off.
Touch Global, a relief ministry of the Evangelical Free Church of America, continues to use this tragedy as a ministry opportunity 48 days into their project.
EFCA Touch Global began relief work in Texas on September 13 and has not let up since then. The post-Ike news updates are almost non-existent, but there is still much work to be done. EFCA Touch Global has gutted 12 homes to date, with hundreds more to go. The government recently released 70 million dollars for relief in affected areas, but the process will still be time consuming.
Although Touch Global helpers are excited to help repair physical damages, they greatest joy is to offer lasting hope. EFCA Touch Global has made their aid free to anyone who needs it, a shocking gesture of service to many Texans. This willingness to help has given Touch Global workers the opportunity to share the Gospel and lead some to Christ. By humbling themselves, Jesus has been lifted up and surely will continue to be.
