Rwanda (MNN) — The earthquake in Congo on Saturday was mirrored just a few hours later by a second one in Rwanda that measured 5.0 on the Richter scale.
Food for the Hungry has worked in Rwanda since 1994. Their staff reported that they were not affected by the earthquake. Instead, the staff is assessing the best way to provide assistance to those who were affected.
Rwanda's population is approximately 90 percent subsistence agricultural. It is also the most densely populated country in Africa although it has very few natural resources.
The second earthquake was centered in Gitarama. A published news source reported that rescue efforts are underway, but one police officer said that the number of deaths could gradually rise since many people are still trapped.
