Burkina Faso (MNN) — On Monday in Burkina Faso, shopkeepers near the Togolese border were returning from a day at the market. But their journey was cut short when suspected jihadists attacked, killing at least 20 people.
It’s a disturbing trend in Burkina Faso. Terror attacks in the West African country have killed over 5,000 people so far this year.
Helen Williams with World Missionary Press says in this context, their local ministry partners are being cautious.
“As far as we know and everything I’ve heard, the [ministry] work is continuing. It may have restrictions and it may be a little bit more difficult, but the work is continuing.”

World Missionary Press recently sent Scripture booklets to a ministry partner in Burkina Faso.
Williams says, “They are a ministry that goes into villages, and I don’t know if that’s been restricted – going into different places. But we did send them a shipment of material in French and we had a report and some photos from them about going home-to-home and having open-air campaigns and planting churches in this one particular village.
“They had requested a new language, Moore, and there are about 8 million people that speak that language in Burkina Faso. So sometime last year, we got it put together and on this shipment that they just received, they got their first shipment of that language. They were just overjoyed.”

Williams says, “There are several countries in Africa that are going through upheavals, and we know that the only power to change lives and to change countries is the power of the cross and the power of the Word.”
