Dr. Michael Johnson with kids helped by WGM in Kenya.
Kenya (MNN) ― Kenya is the only country of East Africa that has never had a civil war. An oasis of relative stability on a continent fraught with unrest, it's the perfect jumping off point for building the future of the church with the current generation.
World Gospel Mission's Michael Johnson works in this arena toward far-reaching impact. "We focus on how we can provide sustainable solutions that are building self-reliance within the communities. We do have educational institutions but most of them have been focused on biblical training and we are now moving into vocational training as well as primary and secondary school."
WGM approach involves six venues. The first is Children's Ministries. The team in this area works to meet
children's spiritual and physical needs through schools, orphanages, Bible
schools, and street ministries.
Church ministries involve building relationships to create an atmosphere where evangelism can take place. Helping in the establishment of local churches by training individuals in leadership and sending them all over the world.
While Kenya's
GDP (Gross Domestic Product) is growing at a rate of more than 5%, there are
still many who need help with basic education.
In this area of the world, education is power. WGM's Educational ministries emphasizes
education in a Christian atmosphere because they regard the students of today
as tomorrow's church leaders.
Humanitarian and medical ministries offer yet another avenue to reach out to people in need. It's a constant focus on meeting human needs in all areas of the world while considering opportunities for evangelism.
Johnson says offering hope to the foundation of the community comes with relationship. "We do get involved with the communities with Bible discussion and Bible study. We are training people that go in and work with children specifically about their relationship with Christ."
The Johnson's current array of work include evangelism, humanitarian work, work with orphans and abandoned children, training medical students, interns, and physicians, working at rural healthcare and urban slum clinics, and supporting rural development.
At this point, the team is looking for funding and prayer
support. Click here if you want to help.
