USA (MNN) ― A Noroviral outbreak has temporarily disrupted missionary training for the Southern Baptists.
The outbreak was first reported April 23, following a staff retreat at the Rockville, Virginia facility.
International Mission Board's International Learning Center in Rockville, Virgina was forced to close until May 12 for sanitation because of the outbreak. Over 100 people were sickened by the Norovirus, which disrupted missionary training.
Health officials confirmed the cause and stated that this
type of outbreak can and does occur in the best and cleanest of facilities. It is in no way a reflection on the IMB or its learning center staff.
Norovirus is a common, highly contagious, viral gastrointestinal disease that
causes symptoms such as nausea, diarrhea and low-grade fever. Symptoms usually
last one to two days. According to health officials, about 23 million cases of
the virus are reported annually nationwide.
The center offers training for missionaries throughout their careers and for returning short-term workers. Please pray for the team as the center resumes its activities as a Gospel launch pad to the world.
