Bangladesh (MNN) ― A month after Cyclone Sidr slammed into Bangladesh's coastal region, the country is seeking more than two billion dollars to help recover from the deadly damage.  Millions lost their homes to the storm, and rebuilding the infrastructure could take a long time.

The United Nations and the government earlier this month said more than 8.5 million people have been affected while crops were damaged on more than 7 million acres.

If left to recuperate, one of the worst-hit ecosystems would re-generate to pre-cyclone conditions in a little more than a decade. In the meantime, monies granted would go toward long-term development programs like forestation, construction of new cyclone shelters and well-protected schools and colleges.

Meanwhile, food prices have surged by as much as 50 percent in the cyclone affected area-- price hikes well beyond the means of most cyclone survivors.

Mission Aviation Fellowship is not only providing emergency relief but also emergency communications as communications hubs get established. MAF is one of only two civilian aviation operators in the country.

MAF serves missions and isolated people around the world with aviation, communications and learning technologies. Pray that their teams will find opportunities to share the comfort of Christ.
