60-70 percent of homes in the cyclone-affected area were destroyed.

Bangladesh (MNN) ― Compassion International is still assessing the damage of Cylcone Sidr.  They are providing relief as needed to sponsored children, their families, and church partners.

There are 9,000 sponsored children in the area and fourteen projects that have been affected.  The estimates say that 60 to 70 percent of the houses in the area were destroyed. Those who have not been affected by the destruction of homes now may be affected later. Nearly 95 percent of the rice crops that were ready for harvest were destroyed.

Sidr came in at 150 mph and killed at least 1,100 people. As of the latest report, no more information was available about the impact on Compassion-sponsored children. With communication lines down, it has been difficult to give and receive information.

When information is received, Compassion will notify sponsors if any of their children have been  affected by the destruction.

It costs $30 to supply families in Bangladesh with two weeks worth of food and clean water. Click here to learn more.
