International (MNN) ― Global Aid Network has committed to provide aid to the desperately needy in the former Soviet Union and other famine-hit areas in Sudan and Zimbabwe.
In many of these places, obtaining simple items like quality vegetable seeds to grow food is nearly impossible. Sadly, high-yield vegetable seeds often are just not available in the devastated regions where GAiN teams minister.
However, $2.60 is all it takes to provide Family Seed Packs that will yield a crop of vegetables to be distributed to orphanages and desperate families who couldn't otherwise purchase them. A gift of $26.00 could potentially provide 10 destitute families with 2,000 pounds of food.
Under the right circumstances, the seeds in this packet have the potential to yield 200 pounds of food. GAiN has included seeds for beans, beets, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, carrots, kale, lettuce, spinach, and tomatoes.
Additionally, there is great potential for "double impact" on desperately poor families in the areas surrounding the local church partners in various countries. This is because gospel teams from these churches not only will reach out with the seed packets but also share the Good News of Christ.
Each Family Seed Pack includes a card explaining the love of Christ and introducing the recipient to the God who can grow the seeds.
The goal this year is to create 150,000 Family Seed Packs
of 20 packages including a variety of seeds like garden beans, beets, broccoli,
