India (MNN) ― Gospel For Asia reports that a low-caste political party in India won state assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. That's good news for the large percentage of Dalits and low castes who reside there.
Already, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has directed officials to initiate strict action against all those who disrupt law and order and destroy public properties.
According to GFA, over the next five years, the Bahujan Samaj Party's (BSP) leader, Mayawati Naina Kumari, is promising to increase education for Dalits, maintain religious freedom, and uphold their justice.
Their example brings hope to many beleaguered Christians because Uttar Pradesh is also one of the most influential states in Indian politics, boasting several of India's Prime Ministers.
Shortly after the BSP took an
unexpected sweep in the elections, many political analysts praised the shift as
a good one for the state of Uttar Pradesh.
With the promise of increased education and opportunities for the Dalits, as well as the continued backing of the political party for religious freedom, change will be inevitable for the party who will likely benefit the most.
GFA leaders ask for prayer that the Lord will continue to
work in the hearts of the Dalits, giving them hope not only for this life but
the life to come as well. Meanwhile, GFA will continue its outreach ministry for the Dalit
children.
Their Bridge
of Hope program has more
than 42,000 children enrolled, giving them an education, meeting physical
needs, and sharing with them the love and knowledge of Jesus Christ.
GFA is also sharing the love of Christ with the Dalits through adult literacy programs and parenting classes. Hundreds of churches planted, filled with new Christians praising Jesus for true freedom found only in Him. Click here if you want to help.
